Peiffer Rosca Wolf Files Second Federal Class Action Lawsuit Against Walden University

The Peiffer Rosca Wolf Firm filed a second federal class action lawsuit in the United States District Court for Minnesota, on December 2, 2016, alleging Walden University and Laureate International Universities, commonly known simply as “Walden,” violated doctoral students’ rights by falsely promising students a specific, and relatively short, time for completion of the doctoral degree sought while at the same time failing to explain the actual “design” time of each doctoral degree and the realities of the dissertation process.

The complaint alleges that in this manner, Walden engaged in fraud, breached its contracts with students, including the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, was unjustly enriched at the expense of doctoral students, and violated various state consumer-protection statutes, in an effort to create a recurring revenue stream by trapping doctoral students in the dissertation process – the last requirement of a doctoral degree.

A copy of the full complaint is available on the Peiffer Rosca Wolf website. An NBC News article covering the lawsuit is available here.

As part of the lawsuit, the Complaint requests that current and former students receive monetary damages, as well as pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, attorneys’ fees, and other costs of litigation. Additionally, the Complaint requests that the case be certified as a class action and that Walden be prevented from continuing with similar conduct in the future.

Peiffer Rosca Wolf Continues Investigating

Peiffer Rosca Wolf lawyers often represent individuals harmed by fraud, or other unfair or deceptive practices and are continuing to investigate Walden’s doctoral programs.

Most cases of this type are taken on a contingency fee basis, meaning that Peiffer Rosca Wolf would advance the case costs, and only get paid for their fees and costs out of money they recover for their clients.

Walden doctoral students who believe they were subjected to fraudulent conduct or misrepresentations by Walden may contact Paul Lesko, one of the attorneys on the case, at 314-833-4826 or at [email protected], for a free, no-obligation evaluation of their recovery options.
